Calumny
- a false statement about a person that is made to damage their reputation
- false and malicious accusation; misrepresentation; slander
E.g. The unscrupulous politician was not above calumny; the lies he spread about his opponent proved decision in the closely contested senatorial race.

Obdurate
- hardened in feeling, resistant to persuasion, intractable, hardened to wrongdoing
- refusing to change your mind or your actions in any way
- SYN - stubborn
E.g. Some members of the committee are likely to prove obdurate on this matter.

Emulate
- to try to do sth as well as sb else because you admire them
E.g. She hopes to emulate her sister's sporting achievements.
